Something smells great!

What is aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy massage is massage therapy but with highly concentrated plant oils, called essential oils, added to the massage oil or lotion.

How does aromatherapy massage work?

The nostrils are attached to a part of the brain called the limbic system. The limbic system controls emotions and influences the nervous system and hormones.

When you inhale essential oil molecules, messages are transmitted to the limbic system and affect heart rate, stress level, blood pressure, breathing, memory, digestion, and the immune system.

Essential oils are also  absorbed through the skin.

Each essential oil has different healing properties. For example, some calm while others energize. Here are some widely used essential oils and their properties:

  • calming – chamomile, lavender, geranium
  • uplifting – ylang ylang, clary sage, rose, neroli
  • energizing – rosemary
  • cleansing – rosemary
  • decongesting – eucalyptus, pine, tea tree

Aromatherapy massage is particularly suited to conditions involving stress or improving emotionally-related conditions.

What is a chemical peel?

Chemical peels can improve the skin’s appearance.  A chemical solution is applied to the skin, which sometimes make it “blister” and eventually peel off. The new skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin.

Chemical peels can be done on the face, neck, or hands. They can be used to:

  • Reduce fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth
  • Treat wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging
  • Improve the appearance of mild scars
  • Treat certain types of acne
  • Reduce age spots, freckles, and dark patches (melasma) due to pregnancy or taking birth control pills
  • Improve the look and feel of skin

Areas of sun damage may improve after chemical peeling.

After a chemical peel, skin is temporarily more sensitive to the sun, so wear sunscreen every day. It should say “broad-spectrum” on the label, meaning it protects against the sun’s UVA and UVB rays.

Before you get a chemical peel, your esthetician may ask you to stop taking certain drugs and prepare your skin by using other medications, such as Retin-A, Renova, or glycolic acid.

Work with your esthetician to determine the depth of your peel. This decision depends upon the condition of your skin and your goals for treatment.

The experts at PCA SKIN have devoted over two decades to the development of highly effective peels that safely treat all skint types.  PCA SKIN peels  are essential to overall skin health and provide added nutrients for faster more dramatic results.  Our wide range of peels  offer the benefits for all skin types –even the most sensitive.  Your PCA SKIN certified professional will choose the formula best suited for your skin type.

Who wants a massage?

Massage is generally considered part of complementary and alternative medicine. It’s increasingly being offered along with standard treatment for a wide range of medical conditions and situations.

While more research is continually being conducted to confirm the benefits of massage, some studies have found massage helpful for:

  • Stress relief
  • Managing anxiety and depression
  • Pain
  • Stiffness
  • Blood pressure control
  • Decreasing insomnia
  • Sports-related injuries
  • Boosting immunity
  • Cancer treatment

Beyond the benefits for specific conditions or diseases, some people enjoy massage because it often involves caring, comfort, a sense of empowerment and creating more awareness of the physical body.

Massage has so many benefits, but isn’t meant as a replacement for regular medical care. Let your doctor know you’re trying massage and be sure to follow any standard treatment plans you have.

Massage is a great gift for yourself and your loved ones, and makes for an incredible gift as well.
